About Us: Quality & Evaluation
The Consortium has a rigorous quality assurance process which benefits from the active involvement of staff from LBCNC member colleges at all stages. The quality system aims to ensure that:
- all materials are factually accurate
- materials are appropriate for the intended learners
- materials are at the right academic level.
The quality assurance process
Stage 1: Consultation
Needs are identified through discussion with delegates at the annual conference, college visits and regular contact with staff in member colleges.
Stage 2: Specification
Once a topic area has been identified a detailed specification is drawn up. in consultation with subject experts from at least two colleges. The specification is then sent to specialists at up to three further colleges for approval and comment.
Stage 3: Drafting
Learning materials are drafted, in line with the specification, by professional writers. Member colleges provide source material and information.
Stage 4: Critical review and pilot
A full draft of the material is sent to subject teachers to check accuracy of content and appropriateness for the target audience.
Stage 5: Production and distribution
Finalised learning materials are uploaded to the LBCNC website in PDF and Word format and emailed to key contacts in member colleges.
Evaluation
The Consortium places a high priority on the importance of active and on-going evaluation to ensure that resources are up-to-date and fit for purpose.
Feedback
Member colleges provide regular feedback on the use and effectiveness of resources and suggest how they could be improved.
Updating
In addition, a rolling process of revision ensures that all packs are reviewed and updated on a three-yearly cycle.
